Hey Ben,

Do you think it is worth to buy the game? I was also thinking of getting it, however I wasn't sure whether it would be a good decision or not. Also, will you guys be less active in Canyon from now on? :(

Less active in Canyon: Don't think so, just because all the ESL/Tournaments will stay there.

Trackmania Turbo was supposed to bring some fresh air into the series. The environments seem fun even though it's basically just the previous 3 environments plus a new one, but the COMPLETELY console focused gameplay ruins it, especially when playing the Rollercoaster Lagoon environment with keyboard instead of a controller. In addition to that the UPlay requirement completely disconnects TMT from the previous games, which means I can't really play with some of my old friends anymore.

Trackmania Turbo takes a good chunk of what was fun in the previous parts and turns them into something that is barely any good. Customization is now limited to paintjobs only, and not even different paintjobs per environment. Thanks to Uplay you can't change your nickname in ways you could do it before, and stuff like horns, avatars, custom car models/skins are all gone. Dedicated servers are also gone, which means that servers (or rather lobbies) can only be hosted on Nadeo's services, giving the host barely any control over how the server works.

Overall Trackmania Turbo is really disappointing in a lot of aspects that made the Trackmania series so iconic and fun.

As a veteran, I am disappointed.

But since there is a demo out there, I'd recommend people to try it before making a choice on buying this game.

What an utter disappointment. No dedicated servers, no local or Dedimania leaderboards online, no customization of cars or nicknames, no way to hide your opponents, only 100 players max, a dumbed down console port that treats its users as a bunch of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and on top of that forces you to install and always log onto Uplay.

I've been playing ALL Trackmania games since the first game came out 13 years ago. Trackmania United is by far my favorite, though Trackmania Stadium 2 ain't too bad either. Trackmania never really was a $60 AAA game; it's a fun game which you can jump into and play for 30 mins and then alt+f4 back to reality. It's a chill game series but has the ability to let you practice for hundreds of hours to master the fine physics to become the best. Trackmania Turbo is not that kind of a game.

Trackmania Turbo is mediocre, and it disappoints in so many areas. This is the first game in the series that forces you to install a third party client called Uplay. Why this nonsense? Not any particular reason, it's apparently just how Ubisoft deal with all their games. You can't opt out from it at all. You gotta make a separate account and then log into both Steam and Uplay every time you wanna play the game. It sucks. Another thing is max 100 players. This isn't impressive at all if you've played the previous games where there have been 700 players online on one server fighting for the podium. PCs can handle that. Stop forcing PC gamers to follow the console limitations.

I really looks as if they just took the shell of the previous games and add some restrictions and removed some freedom and customization. I'm requesting a refund but might buy it at the summer sales if it's like 85% off.

Don't waste your money.

Well, sorry to disppoint you, but this was already announced half a year ago, also by NADEO themself.
This game is meant to be a pure console game and bring in new players to TM. The PC version is only a little Plus, because people wanted it that way, but it will never evolve into anything.
The strategy is to introduce the console people and the ones who never played it before to TM.
All the customization stuff like dedicated servers, skins, models, mods, dedis,... will only be possible in Maniaplanet, where the people should go, if they want "more".
That`s why lagoon will also be in Maniaplanet soon.
TURBO IS ONLY FOR THE CASUAL HOME-TV EXPERINCE!!!
This is nothing new and the people writing this reviews are just not informed enough.

EDIT: Btw. the lack of customization like dedicated servers is also a rights problem with the console companies and as the PC version is "only a port" it stays the same there. Although, when lagoon and all the other improvements will arrive in Maniaplanet, there will be no need for the Turbo-PC-version anyway.

Money is the thing thats gonna ruin most of the games in the future (and it already did).
Most of the games already switched to P2P servers managed by developer companies leaving players with almost no management power over these things and it's a pure bulshit if you ask me. I just hope this policy won't be alive for long.
Anyways, it's all about the money nowadays.
Therefore I'll probably quit gaming once good old games like TM die.

The thing I don't understand is UPlay. It's so unnecessary, and makes playing with friends even more complicated

Actually the hate on being forced to uwe uPlay is the least of the critics I can understand. In the past years almost every game has been running over Steam, uPlay or Origin and honestly, who still goes to the store to buy a game on CD/DVD?

Wow, I was excited to see this on the PS store and bought it as quickly as I could hit the "add to cart" button. I haven't opened TM for a year because I don't really play anything on PC anymore, but PS4 version is just what I needed.

Launched the game, logged on to uPlay, and was a put off by lack of settings. Where do I set my nickname? Add friends? Where's the controller settings? Oh well, let's start off with the campaign and see how's the gamplay.

Luckily most of buttons were where I wanted them to be, except for the camera button. There's only two camera angles!? Oh, I'm forced to start the campaign with Canyon tracks? Oh well. Aren't these graphics a bit pixelated though? Didn't this look much better on PC? Multiplayer was pretty much what I expected. What I didn't like was the inability to hide other drivers, and that damn missing camera angle. Gameplay was the same old, I mean why wouldn't it be.

After one hour of playing, I decided that I still like the game and will play it again. Now if they just updated the game to add some of the critical missing features.

Personally I decided to wait for the lagoon environment for the Maniaplanet client but today is my brothers birthday, so I bought the Turbo for the PS4. We were 3 players and just started the game, but unfortunetly we couldnt play the splitscreen mode from the very beginning so we just started with the campain. It was really fun, they did the bronze and silver medaille and me the gold one. We just played a couple of maps but the up to 16 player local mode seems to be great fun. So if u want to play TM with your friends, I can really recommend it. For the competion mode I would wait until the Lagoon-Maniaplanet-Extension.

I'll update the post as soon as I play it again.
